So far, so good, with exception of a few glitches. I upgraded from an SR6013, where I seemed to be at the cusp of enough wattage for my speakers. The Cinema 30 presents a “night and day” difference with my front soundstage and surrounds. I have an all SVS Prime Pinnacle/Elevation speaker package and the 30 watt increase, over the SR6013, has taken everything to the next level. The sounds is brighter, fuller and effortless in comparison. Though, this felt like buying a quarter of a car, I’m hoping that this receiver lasts as long as my SR6013.
Now the glitches. Maybe not a glitch but, the setup was a little confusing. With my SR6013, I was used to controlling everything with the Marantz AVR app. The Cinema 30, before anything else, makes you download and signup for a HEOS account. Which, after installing, has no receiver control and is used to stream music to the receiver, which I will never use. I think the HEOS app suggestion should be grouped with all of the other app suggestions near the end of setup.
Second, while trying to select a Movie Sound profile in the app, I discovered that the Music-Atmos profile was selected, when it should have been Movie-Atmos. When I tried to change it within the app or with the remote, it refused to “stick.” I turned everything off and then it functioned normally again.
Thirdly, while I was fine tuning settings in the setup feature, turning settings on and off, the receiver decided to shut off completely. And, the following day, the Setup menus just froze. I was forced to unplug the receiver and let it sit for several seconds. When I plugged it back in, functionality was restored.
This receiver is impressive to the ears and I hope the glitches I am experiencing can easily be solved with firmware updates.
