Audio-Technica broadens its direct-drive turntable range with the semi-automatic AT-LP8X, featuring an advanced tonearm lift that automatically raises the tonearm and halts the motor at the end of a record side. The turntable’s J-shaped aluminum tonearm, inspired by vintage A-T models from the 1960s and ’70s, includes the redesigned AT-LT10 headshell and AT-VM95E BK cartridge with a 0.3 x 0.7 mil elliptical stylus, delivering precise channel separation and low distortion for exceptional sound fidelity. The stylus is easily interchangeable with any of the five additional VM95 series styli, while the tonearm’s adjustable vertical tracking angle (VTA) and subcounterweight support a wide variety of cartridges. Compatible with 33-1/3, 45, and 78 RPM records, the AT-LP8X features a 25 mm rubber-damped, anti-resonance die-cast aluminum platter with a 2.5 mm rubber mat, powered by a sensor-controlled motor that maintains consistent rotation speed. The motor and efficient internal switching power supply are housed in a 16 mm MDF box plinth with height-adjustable feet to effectively reduce noise and vibration. Included are a detachable dual RCA output cable with ground, a 45 RPM adapter, and a removable hinged dust cover.
