YouTube TV Introducing 4K and Dolby 5.1 Upgrades

Big news for YouTube TV subscribers, based on a YouTube blog post they have just announced both 4K and Dolby 5.1 support. This comes in the form of a service add-on package to existing users’ plans which they call “4K Plus”.

The 4K Plus add-on package, along with providing an option to watch select content in 4K, users are also able to download shows from their DVR for offline viewing on mobile or any other device. The plan add-on will be an additional $19.99 per month, on top of the base service price of $64.99. As a promo offer, new YouTube TV customers will have the add-on for the discounted price of $9.99 for 12 months.

In terms of sound, Dolby 5.1 support will be rolling out in the next few weeks for “selected devices.” A YouTube representative has explained that support will come first to smart TVs followed by other devices. Unfortunately, no news on what those devices might be but a list of supported devices will be on YouTube TV’s help website as the update rolls out.
